Tunisia, Palestine ink MoU to fight poverty

Tunisia and Palestine inked a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday October 03, 2023 with a view to exchanging experiences and promoting mechanisms to fight poverty and push for the integration of people with disabilities.
The MoU was signed by Minister of Social Affairs Malek Ezzahi and Palestinian Minister of Social Development Ahmad Majdalani.
It is designed to guarantee social protection, money transfers and urgent assistance under the programme of social protection and vocational training in solidarity economy. This in addition to the fight against illiteracy and women's economic empowerment.
Training sessions are geared towards psychologists and sociologists in both countries as well as staff caring for people with disabilities, the ministry said.
The agreement, Ezzahi said, will help strengthen ties between Tunisia and Palestine. He also reiterated Tunisia's support for the just Palestinian people.
The minister outlined the Tunisian experience in fighting poverty and illiteracy, caring for people with disabilities and supporting children without support.
He also reviewed mechanisms implemented to ensure the socio-economic integration of this group, notably through the social welfare programme and community companies.
The MoU will increase cooperation between the two countries, he added.
The Palestinian minister commended Tunisia's legislation and mechanisms in the social field and underscored the importance of exchanging experiences.
It is highly important to create community companies, Majdalani said. Their role in local and regional development is crucial.
